April 20, 2015

Well, I never really thought this day would come! My last letter home. It's sobering, and very bittersweet.

I cannot begin to describe how much I will miss the people here in Mexico and the work. I had no idea I had such capacity to love people!! I am excited to see you all though. My family is the greatest blessing that I have in this life.

Mom, those plans sound fine, I'm sure I'll be feeling just fine, but I'll try to call you all from Houston if I get the chance. I love you all, and well.... see you tomorrow!

August 13, 2015

Well howdy, Y'all!!

Man this week could not have gone by faster.... I'll jump right into it but let me first say that I had NO idea about the masters tournament. I think that at this point in my mission I've just forgotten about everything haha. Who won? Sounds like you guys had quite the time down in St. George. I've become good friends with an Elder here who is from Bloomington, right close to where grandma and grandpa have their condo. Just another hook up we can have down there :). I'm so happy that Cam FINALLY got his patriarchal blessing. If it was anything like my experience, I'm sure it was a life-changing experience.

Well, we had a lot going on this week! We had zone conference with president this week. All of the missionaries here in this city got together in the stake center and we had a really nice meeting. The Jordans are finishing up their missions this summer as well, you can tell that it's a little sobering for them too. It was a very spiritual meeting, President Jordan talked a lot about the Savior's grace. Between the zone conference and President Uchtdorf's talk about grace in general conference, which I loved by the way, I think I've gained a greater understanding of the Grace of the Savior. I've seen it countless times over my mission, and my testimony of Him and His grace will be the my best souvenir that I'll be taking home with me.

We have some pretty sweet investigators right now. I haven't talked much about him, but we're teaching an 18 year old kid named Fabian. He's such a stud, he started investigating the church before we were here, even though there weren't any missionaries here in the area. He's gained such a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and the church. Yesterday, he even brought one of his friend's with him, and now SHE has a great interest in the church. The only bad thing is that she doesn't live here in our area. It's pretty awesome to see. He's already starting to prepare himself to go on a mission. I've come to love him, and I'll be sending pictures this next week of his baptism!! Aside from him we were able to teach that one lady that I talked about last time. Her interest keeps on growing and growing. We talked a little bit about the "blessing" that she's waiting for, and immediately the parable of the pearl of great price came to my mind. I'm anxiously waiting and hoping for the day that she realizes that this is that pearl of great price.

I hope you all know how much I love you! Things are going well here, and I can feel your love and prayers each and every day. Talk to you all next week!

April 6, 2015

Howdy everyone!

Man it sounds like you all had a good time watching conference, especially the part with the root beer floats and pizza for priesthood session! When I get home, we better go to the chapel to watch the priesthood session... I don't want to get rid of that tradition! But conference was great. I really enjoyed it, and I received many answers to the questions that I had. It was really weird to think that it was my last general conference in the mission. I think it's starting to actually hit me that I'm going home soon... It's gonna be tough I'll tell you that much. I have a great love for my mission.

This week was a good one! We started it off with a trip to the temple for my comp to get endowed. He was super excited, and it was a good experience for me to be his guide or whatever you call it. We had a great temple experience. The short time that we were here in our own area, we didn't get too much work done, but we did get a little bit. Right now it's basically spring break for everyone here. So NO ONE is around. like seriously! We did divisions, and Elder Tueller from Hawaii came here to my area with me. He's a stud and a good friend. We had a good time together, and found a couple of sweet investigators!

My companion and I received a reference from other elders, so we went to contact her this week. We got there, and we were shouting for her to come out, but, even though it seemed like someone was home, no one was coming out. My companion, already a little distraught for the tough day we had had said, "Let's just get out of here, Elder, she obviously doesn't want to come out." I told him to wait just a minute, and that we would try a couple more times, and that she would come out. So we did, and she came out. She was really hesitant at first and looked like she didn't want anything from us, but she finally came out to where we were and started talking to us. She's a Catholic lady, but very spiritual. She said that she had kind of talked to missionaries before, but that it never turned into anything. We started talking about her family, and she told us that she's really struggling with her husband, and they're having some pretty big problems. She said that she's been praying and praying for help to know what to do, and that she felt that something big was waiting for her, something that she had been missing for a long time. I testified to that humble sister that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is exactly that missing piece, and the Spirit testified very strongly to all of us. We're excited to go back and teach her this week!
Thanks for all the love and support everyone. I love you all tremendously. Thank you for all the prayers, I can feel them and I know that Heavenly Father is blessing me.

HOWDY!

Well Well well.... it seems like just one week ago that I was here at the computer writing you guys! haha. Well, things are going well! We did a lot of good work this week. Still trying to get a hang of things in the new area but we're getting there! This week was full of meeting a lot of new people, like members and stuff, and meeting new investigators, or old investigators that were listening to the missionaries before they took the missionaries out of this area. We have this one investigators here named Fabian. In the time that there were no missionaries here in the area, he started investigating the church because his girlfriend is a member, and he started receiving the missionary lessons from other Elders in one of the close wards. We got here, and he was basically already ready! We've got a baptismal date with him for the 16th of April. He's already planning on serving a mission after he has a year as a member! It's been a great blessing to teach him.

So, yes, Mom, I will be coming home the 8th of June. I just got all my travel plans today in my email actually. Wow, that was weird to see let me tell you. I'll be arriving in Salt Lake at approximately 4:37 p.m. on June 8th--e haha. The city that I'm in right now is a pretty big city, it's actually the capital of the state of Tamaulipas. So yeah they have a couple of hospitals here in the city, one that's in our area actually.

Sam's going to Arkansas? .......... that's way smooth.

We're getting really excited for General conference this weekend! Weird to think that it'll be my last general conference in the mission. But it'll be great! I'm sorry I didn't have tons to write today, but I'm doing good and doing all that I can to finish strong. I love this work, I love my Savior, and I wouldn't rather be anywhere else in the world right now. Love you all!!!
